Wilmington Question

pinknolegirl Sep 14, 2011 11:10 AM

OK, so not really Philly, but as close as I could get. Anyways, I'm fairly new to the area, and just started a new job. Anyone know of any good delis in South Wilmington/North New Catle area that serve Liverwurst sandwiches?? I have a craving like you wouldn't belive!! Prefer if they deliver, since I'm often stuck at the office with no car.

Illg's in Chalfont, Pa has a braunschweigerwurst that is a kickass liverwurst sold in a small 6oz or so tube. They do not mail order but if you call them, they might tell you who in Northern Delaware sells their sausages. Get the smooth not the coarse grind.

Oh, wow, deluca: I adore liverwurst, it's like a guilty pleasure, and did not know about
Illg's. Maybe I wouldn't have to feel guilty about eating quality liverwurst? Do you know
who sells this near Center City, or even the Northeast?

The other place you could try getting liverwurst from is Riekers in Fox Chase. When Hop Angel first opened (under their first chef) they were using it for their appetizer. Bit closer than trying to find Illig's.

I know this has nothing to do with the OP but years ago I took a second date to Judy's at 3rd and Bainbridge. I loved their country pate. My date was an american cheese, gizmo kind of girl. I told her pate was just liverwurst. SHe loved it. Then the waiter came to the table and she said "This is the best liverwurst ever!" As usual at Judy's, he was gracious, and winked at me. No need to hide your liverwurst-love

Call Illg's. Know they have it at Wayne farmer's Mkt. for one place. When l worked at Ardmore Cheese, we had it, but that shop is now closed.

Sorry, do not know name of stand. When you walk in turn right and walk to far right wall, then left for a little past cheese guy and there they are. Small gold tubby sausage-like packages.

Leo & Jimmy's is an old downtown Wilmington favorite. If it is still open, they do great Liverwurst sandwiches.

I have heard good things about Ioannoni's on Basin Road (aka 141) but have never been there.

You might want to try posting your question on the Mid-Atlantic board. That's the one that "officially" serves the Wilmington area.
