Anyone with experiences at Galo restaurant? It's a Portuguese grill restaurant in TMR. Can't find any talk about it on this board. First heard about it, when it opened several years ago.

  1. I went a couple of times and it was really good, I had their pork sandwich which was very moist and tasty and a grilled tomato stuffed with other veggies and cheese. A lot of people that I work with order from there as well. Give it a try and buy a bottle of piri piri sauce on the way out!

    1. Its a good spot if you live in TMR for sure. Prices are reasonable, food is good. But I wouldnt go out of the way to go there as the Portugese places in Mile end are better. Took my parents there once and they enjoyed it. Theres a sushi place next to it on Kindersley that I enjoy very much as well.

I'd, respectfully disagree with your assessment, Galo compares quite favorably to any of the Portugese grills on the Plateau, and in certain cases (Barcelos, Jano, Tasca, Marilou, Bica) is much better.

I wouldn't say it was favorable to Portugalia or Barcelos,. It is not nearly as smoky or spicy in flavor as most Portuguese grillades. But I have been there several times and enjoy it very much for what it is. The portions are large, the food is fresh and the there are some really nice touches as well. The bolinhos de bacalhau are made by the owners mother, all drinks, including wines are imported from Portugal. The decor is delightful. I really feel like it is a wonderful little neighbourhood restaurant you can depend on. Selfishly, I'm kind of glad nobody talked about it till now!
