Had the pleasure of fighting the crowds and squeezing for a parking space between an Aston Martin DB9 and MB SL500, to genuflect before the Noodle Nazi at DAI HO in Temple City.

I had intended on going to DAI HO for two things (well, actually three if you count the numerous cold dishes we always get, incl. the seaweed and celery root, but I digress ...).

The first thing that always brings me to DAI HO is the cold "dan dan mien" ... luscious strands of noodles dipped in a very mercurial and savory spicy peanut/sesame sauce.

The second is the beef noodle soup, usu. made with a spicy broth nurtured from beef shank and enough star anise, allspice, chili, peppercorn and who knows what else to fill up a witch's spice rack.

But today, oh today!, we were offered and treated to the aforementioned beef broth but this time the brew contained pig's feet! YES, PIG'S FEET! Oh man, the thick fatty layers of gelatinous pick skin was simmered so soft it took on a semi foie gras mouth feel to it, like rich butter injected with additional lard. And itty-bitty fits of meat tucked into the pig skin had been rendered so long one could hardly tell the difference between the meat and skin. Both were velvety smooth.

I could eat this all day and I'd gladly give up decades of my lifespan to do ... in fact, I probably already have.

Cheers.

Although I am not much for pig's feet, the dan dan mein and beef noodle soup sound really good. What's the address for this place?

Thanks :)

If you get the dan dan mien, don't let the kitchen catch you splashing extra soy sauce on it (for some reason, why I don't know, there are those that like the added soy sauce). The chef can be quite ornery when this happens.

Although it should be added that ever since Ajisen Ramen opened up down the street, the Noodle Nazi has been much more accomodating than before ... still, I don't consider Ajisen to be comparable, much less competition, to Dai Ho--at least not in terms of quality.

dai ho is a special place, i don't even particulary like beef noodle soup that much at all, but dai ho is a different animal altoghether,

the owner has been pretty nice to me usually,

and those sesame noodles are pretty darn good too.

the beef noodles is pretty spicey though. and the prices are right.

also, beware of limited hourse liike to sit in only open for lunch till like 3 or so, and up to 6pm or so for takeout only.

yeah, and you' probably shouldn't did soy sauce or put in your broth or face maybe no more visits at the joint.

wow, those are pretty pricey cars, but dai ho is not a pricey place at all.

i guess some hounds are welathy.
