Lunch yesterday at I Sette Consoli was a delight, with La Gensola the best complete meal we've had early on in our stay in Italy. Salume, herbed omelets, pigeon, local pecorino with honey, some inexpensive Orvieto and Montefalco Sagrantino in half bottles, all delicious and a great way to set yourself up for a first encounter with the astonishing facade of the town's Doumo. Go!

re: lamaba
I restate my pitch for Trattoria del Moro-Arrone. Unpretentious, honest Umbrian food.

We walked into "I Sette Consoli" for lunch on September 30, and were seated in the garden, where only one other couple was having lunch. It was the best meal of our 3 weeks in Europe, of which 11 days were in Italy. The tiramisu was definitely a standout amongst tiramisus.
I also had a lovely gelato with candied orange peel at "Gelateria Pasqualetti" on the square next to the Duomo, for which I will also include a photo at the end of the other photos.

re: sockster
You don't say how you've been trying. Their phone number is +39-0763-343065. If you've been e-mailing and not getting an answer, it's a common problem. Phone at about 12 noon or 7 pm Italian time or in any case mealtime. I'm not sure what their closing day is. They are definitely open Sundays, so it may be Monday. If you get the mother or son (and how will you know?), you can say Professor Filippi said to call. The son is a former engineering student of my husband. So why don't they do e-mail, you might well ask, but what can I tell you.

We had a wonderful lunch at La Palomba in June. Umbricelli with shaved truffles! The wild boar in a spicy red sauce was delicisous as were the grilled sausages. It is a fun and casual place with a very friendly vibe.

FWIW, after twenty some trips, I Sette Consoli is my favorite restaurant in all of Italy.

re: jen kalb
jen: I guess I lik just about everything about ISC. The chef is a woman who had one Michelin star (don't know how it went away), the food and wine are tops and in season the outdoor dining is special. I always arrive late morning from Rome, lunch there and rent a car to drive into Umbria. I've had dinner there only once, but the tasting menu and wine pairings were excellent

We had a very good lunch, took the trains to/from Rome for the day, at I Sette Consoli. We walked in, but would recommend calling in advance.

Never ask this question without specifying which day of the week, since almost all restaurants are closed one day.
We go to La Pergola (not to be confused with the one in Rome) or Trattoria La Palomba. More upscale is Giglio d'Oro. But there are lots of places to eat and the standard is generally pretty high.

re: sockster
I could have sworn I answered this. I would pick La Pergola in warm weather, La Palomba in cold, but I wouldn’t worry about it. Both good. We started going to La Pergola when we learned the owner's son, who also works there, was a student of my husband (engineering). Of course they make a fuss over professore, but we like it objectively too. We've sent many people to La Palomba (very plain, very typical) and all have loved it. Have the wild boar.
Sette Consoli is very good, Michelin star, but we never go there because of an episode of bad behavior (theirs, not ours) quite a few years ago. Memories are long. We had our wedding reception (such as it was) at Giglio d'Oro.-----
