Thai Emerald closed - B'ham

Just happened to drive by a few minutes ago and saw a handwritten poster in the door saying they were no longer in business. If I'm surprised, it's because they lasted as long as they did. It never looked busy there. The food was solid both times I ate there, but it was a lot more expensive than I expect for Thai food, even in Birmingham.

It's really too bad. I liked their Thai food and loved their sushi. I agree that they were a little pricey, but I guess they had to pay for that rather excessively elegant building. It seems to be hard to keep good restaurants alive in this corner of town (e.g. Prairie Fire, Original Joe's, Standard Bistro). It's too bad, as I live out this way and hate driving back into Birmingham (where I work) once I've come home at the end of the day or on weekends.
