Smoked Mullet / Mullet Roe

Hey, does anybody know anything about smoked mullet and/or mullet roe in or around Houston? I have seen numerous references to it as a Gulf Coast delicacy, but it seems to be pretty much only in Florida and Alabama. Anyone know anything about more local sources? The people I know who fish around here seem to have little to know interest in mullet smoked or otherwise.

I don't know of anyone that serves this dish. I do know that if you fish the surf from Bolivar to Surfside in the summer you will see bazillions of mullet. There was an article by one of the outdoor writers a few years ago where the writer was fishing with someone from Florida who couldn't believe the number of mullet here, and he made a remark about smoked mullet. You could almost hear the poor guy drooling.
