Casual restaurant in the Garden district

Hi,

i will be wandering alone in the Garden district this week -- I plan on taking the street car from downtown. Is there a casual restaurant to get a bite to eat? I've read about Coquette and Commander's Palace (I know there's a $20 lunch special but don't want to partake as we may go there for dinner) but I don't really want to go there by myself.

I am going to the cemetery there and then wander around on Magazine Street to have a look in the shops.

Thanks.

Andrea

There are many casual restaurants on Magazine Street between 7th St. and Louisiana Ave. Just walk around and pick the one that suits your fancy.

Magazine Street: La Divinia has panini and gelato, the Rum House has pretty tasty tacos and a fun atmosphere, Artz Bagels has bagel sandwiches, etc., Gott Gourmet, Joey K's, Salu, Sake Cafe...

I would especially recommend The Grocery on St. Charles and 6th, though.

Whole heartedly second the recommendation of The Grocery at 2854 St. Charles Avenue. Not only are the sandwiches and soups absolutely delicious, these are really nice people. This was supposed to be his wife's business, but after she encountered a serious illness, he is running it .

Dine at the bar, or a small two top by the window at Coquette. $20 prix fixe lunch is a bargain.
