Restaurant recommendations on Mercer St.

I'm meeting my cousin from Greece, who's here for TIFF, for dinner tomorrow night. She's staying at the LeGermain Hotel on Mercer St in the entertainment district. I want to taker her out for dinner around the hotel but I'm a humble suburbanite and don't know what's good within walking distance. Any suggestions? Nothing too formal, something relaxed but good.

Why not eat at Victor in the hotel?

I was checking out the menu for Victor. Looks a bit pretentious for my 'lowbrow' tastes.

Has anyone dined at Victor recently? How was it? Trying to think of a relatively upscale option close to the Royal Alex, besides Paese, Milagro, Toca & Modus, that's closer to the Royal Alex than Nota Bene, Tutti Matti, etc.

I was there maybe 6 weeks back. It was pretty good..They had a special small plates menu that we took advantage of. I cant remember specifics now, but I would say 6/8 of the dishes were pretty good. Its usually a safe choice.. nothing exciting, but safe and convenient for when I am going to Second City or the theatre.

For a later dinner, Le Select is close and great - definitely make a rez.

Second the Tutti Matti recc as well.

If you want really close the restos in the Le Germain or the Soho are entirely decent but pricier.

Khao San Road for Thai is really good and not too far.

For lower brow but still nice, either Pizza Rustica on Peter (right around the corner) or very casual the Adelaide Street Pub at Peter and Richmond.

Agree with Le Select & Pizza Rustica Cat123!

Double the walking time Zeva for high heels!

Milagro at Mercer/John (so just east of the hotel - about a 1 min walk) is good for Mexican. Share a bunch of appetizers and a margarita.
Or walk one block north to King Street - and there are a variety of restaurants - bit touristy but lots of variety. (Paese for Italian, Canteen, Verona, Dhaba for Indian). Walk west on King and you have good Thai at Thai Princess. Keep walking west of Spadina (about a 10 min from the hotel) and you have Crush, Brassaii, Lee, Buca and few pubs to choose from. Have fun!

I was looking at Milagro but they're only open until 9:30p tomorrow and I'm meeting my cousin at 8pm.

Odd hours especially during TIFF! Head up to King Street! Tutti Matti on Adelaide just east of Spadina is another option for you - great Italian.

I would say it is about five mins. Five long mins in 4 inch heels. I've done it once or twice before but it is worth it. Good food, good serivce and it won't break the bank.
