How to use Anise Seeds (NOT Desserts)

I love anise flavoring. I would love to use it in healthier ways thatn just cookies or cakes. What foods go well with it? I think my mom used it in sausage, but I've only seen recipes calling for fennel seed. Would they be interchangable?

    I'd try it with pork, applied however (rub, marinade, sauce etc). I bet a tenderloin with anise and sage would be awesome.

    It's fresh enough that I'd put it with fattier, richer things to balance them out.
