Good Eats in Columbus Circle ???
I am going to soon be working in the Colombus Circle vicinity and would LOVE to hear you guys favorite places to grab good eats in this area.
I usually go for ethnic , hole-in-the-wall , cheap all around good eats...not fancy-schamncy type of places....
So what are your favorite places in this area ??
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated !

Grab a sandwich and a dessert from AQ Kafe and head to Central Park.
I find Mariella's to be sub-par. Bouchon Bakery is very good but also very overpriced.
Breakfast or lunch at Jean Georges is one of the very best food values in town, though not cheap.

It's a good thing you're limiting this to "ethnic, hole-in-the-wall, cheap all around good eats."
Cuz as everybody knows, there are no exceptional "fancy-schmancy type of places" anywhere near Columbus Circle.

Try Szechuan Gourmet on 56th St. and 8th Ave.
Within a short walking distance you have quite a few options for Japanese:
Katsu Hama
Menchanko Tei
Yakitori Totto
Totto Ramen
Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar and Grill (can be pricey though)
KyotofuThe bar menu at Ma Peche is also very reasonable.

the Mariella's on 8th Ave and 57th remains one of my favorite slice shops. nothing special about it. just good pizza. there's a Good Burger nearby, which people like. i don't. there's also a 'wichcraft at Lincoln Center.
If 54th & 9th isn't too far, try Aaheli for decent North and South Indian dishes. also nearby, there's B-Bap, a fast food bibimbap place. i've only been there once and thought it was just okay.
don't overlook Bouchon Bakery on the third floor and the Whole Foods downstairs. they both serve decent lunches.
