Retro Burger Yonge/St Clair RIP ~Vivat Burger Shack "Burgers are our Business" ?
Well the late and not very lamented Retro Burger is gone from the address of doom on Yonge S of St Clair, and within no time up has sprung a Burger Shack, presumably a cousin of the eatery at Oriole and Eglinton?
Anyone been into this location and have any impressions? it couldn't be worse that its predecessor, I guess; though I will admit to feeling sorry as I passed by daily and saw it usually empty, occasionally with one or two lone customers.

Well since it's near my office and it was new 6 of us tried the burger. The big draw was fresh ground daily meat. For $15 for a burger and fries the food should be good - the fries are shoestring (we decided they were channeling McDonalds) - cooked and tossed with parsley and salt and the burger (we all had the chuck burger - 2 patties, cheese, bacon and carmelized onions) was greasy, greasy, greasy. My bun was shiny with grease before I had 1 bite.
Our verdict - the same as Retro - we tried it once and we won't be back..
Why is it so hard to make a decent burger?›1 Reply -
First - this was reported on the Closings thread a couple of weeks back.
Not sure why such a disaster deserves its own thread.
Second it's NOT a Burger Shack - it's Holy Chuck - whole so-called reno done in less than 2 weeks, so may well be a re-branding rather than a new operation.I note that their 'gig' is that if you eat their $20 special ($18 with a coupon) burger (6 patties ++) in less than 6 minutes, you'll get it free, plus a photo on their wall-of-fame.
So the selling point is that you are rewarded for NOT tasting their burger - just swallowing it! Seems like a strange marketing gimmick to me. Accordingly NOT worth promoting. Even though I have the coupon I'm avoiding it on principle.
