Buy fresh octopus - Montreal

I would like to marinate and grill an octopus Greek style. Anyone recommend a good place to buy an octopus here in Montreal?

Read somewhere that fresh octopus is not available in Montreal and that all octopus available here is either frozen or defrosted by the seller. Supermarch PA always has frozen and defrosted octopus. Bought it many times and if prepared properly, can be quite delicious.

I have had octopus in the resto Poissonnerie Rayan - 6080, chemin de la Cote-des-Neiges

They also sell their fish at counter in back. The only thing I can say is the resto is popular so good turnover I would expect in their produce.

I saw really nice octopus a few weeks back at Jean-Talon at the fishmongers on the north end of the new row (whose name I always forget...) I have bought octopus there before and it is good.

I highly doubt you will ever find octopus that hasn't been frozen at some point anywhere in Montreal. I know that at the Chinese grocery store on St Catherine, West of Fort on the North side of the street, I once saw many huge frozen octopus.

That store – Jang Teu – is not Chinese, it's Korean. They hardly sell any Chinese products. It's almost all Korean and Japanese.

For Octopus, Norref seems to be a good source. Although I've never bought any there. I've never bought octopus, period.
