OK, after TRYING to get a table here many times without a long wait, I finally made it tonight. Based on the months of hype here and all over, I had pretty high expectations.
Had the bacon and onion pie and the heirloom tomato salad. The latter was quite good. But the pie? Just OK. I mean, it was good... as in if it went in down the block you could avoid ordering a commercial pie for delivery. But I didn't find it particularly impressive. I've had better pies recently at both Queen Marguerite in Magnolia and at Via Tribunale on QA. Despite the toppings, it lacked for savor. And the crust was both over-charred *and* soggy in places.
In fairness, I'll try it again. What pie do the fans of Delancy consider their best? They may not get a third chance with me.
