Boquerones in LA

where can I buy at decent price? Whole paycheck has them for $25/lb. and they didn't taste all that great.

SFV, Glendale, Pasadena preferred, but I'll venture out if it's a good deal.

  1. Fresh or preserved? The preserved ones you can get at La EspaƱola.

    1. I've bought them in the refrigerated case at Claro's on Valley Blvd in, in, in... well, it's right near the San Gabriel / Rosemead border, north side of the street a few blocks east of San Gabriel Blvd. They were pretty good, about on par with Whole Foods and cheaper.

I've seen them on occasion at Mario's, the Italian deli in Glendale on Broadway, but they're usually frozen and I don't care for that.

      1. well, I was looking for the marinated/preserved kind. although, damn, if I could find them fresh, wow.

shucks, was just at Seafood Harbor yesterday, could've stopped into Claros real quick. Oh well, next time.

I'll have to check out Mario's as well. Not too far away from there. Depending on how they're frozen, might still be fine. Most seafood we buy nowadays is previously frozen anyway.
