rillettes in manhattan
last place i lived before manhattan was montreal, where i grew used to La Vielle Europe grocery right down the block from me with a huge charcuterie selection: more sausages, hams, terrines, and pates than i could ever try. my favorite go-to lazy meal was a loaf of crusty bread and some pork rillettes. i live in the east village, is there anything that could even somewhat mimic this experience for me nearby?
Went to epicirie boulud on tuesday to check it out. They have a great charcuterie section there, but not rillettes.
I got the head cheese and pate de campagne. Both were excellent. Most of the pates and terrines were about 20/lb, there were some foie mouses that were about 30 bucks, they had boudin blanc, lamb sausages, iberico ham, thai sausages, and some other randoms...
I half wish this place was easier for me to get to (Im in E Village), but half thankful that it's not, because I would probably need bypass surgery sooner rather than later.

Not EV, but not a hike, you can trek to Beechers and get some rillettes, pates and various chacuterie there and to dickson's farmstand in chelsea. If you are craving bread and porky goodness Russo's can hold you over, they have sausages, salamis, cured pork goodness and bread.
