Ducktrap smoked shellfish: RI/MA?

oystertripe Sep 7, 2011 11:01 AM

Does anyone know of a stockist of Ducktrap-brand smoked shrimp, scallops and mussels? I get the Mackenzie catalogue, but considering that their Ducktrap smoked salmon is about 4X the retail Dave's Market price before shipping, I would like to find some at regular retail, not super-inflated. Ideas?

Call the 800 number at Ducktrap and ask them directly. Ask them the nearest supermarket to you that they distribute to. Ask minimums, product availability etc. I'd even ask if they will sell directly if you give them a good order. If customer service doesn't help you call the office of the President. Squeaky wheels, if you want it go for it!!!

Unfortunately, their "Where to Buy" page appears to be nothing more than a list of every retailer that's ever carried any Ducktrap product. I frequently go to Whole Foods in the Hartford area looking for their smoked shrimp but they rarely seem to have it. The usually have the smoked mussels and salmon pate but that's about all you can count on.

have you asked them to order it? Our whole foods will order from any line they carry.

Thanks to all. I asked at a Dave's Market, the manager said they would let me know, but I never heard from them. I might try Whole Foods, but the nearest is a half hour away. Unfortunately, here in Northern Ocean State, our fish markets sell nothing local except littlenecks/quahogs, mostly farmed fish (shrimp, tilapia, salmon, catfish, trout, etc.) and no whole fish. Nor are they interested in stocking local oysters, mussels, squid, etc. The Ducktrap site connects to Mackenzie's for web orders.

since I commute an hour each way to work and a half hour to any real grocery store, a half hour to WF seems like a dream!

Inspired by this discussion, I decided to pop in to Whole Foods last night and, unlike on my previous several visits, they had about 5 Ducktrap products, including smoked shrimp. Go figure.

The WF in Cranston and North Main St in Prov have it. Their Smoked Tuna thinly sliced if great. IMO their smoked seafood is the best on planet eath.

I agree Ducktrap is wonderful. But the smoked seafood, especially roe scallops, sold at Hatch's in Wellfleet MA is the best I have encountered. Sadly, they are only open in the summer, when we avoid the Cape these days, but really, they are marvelous.

Whole Foods carries a variety of Ducktrap smoked items.
