Passing through London after a couple of years away and want a City of London cracker for this Friday please. What's new and shouldn't be missed.

Well, Swithins is not new, but I reckon the ground floor is the best place to eat fish in London. Goodman in Old Jewry for meat, no question.

Say more re what to order--what's best--at both Swithins and Goodman in Old Jewry? Thanks!

At Swithins anything containing the word "Lobster" will be great. My preference is grilled with garlic butter. Also the Monkfish with lime, ginger and honey is terrific, as is the mixed grilled fish.

I've been to Goodman rather less often, and it's "just" a steakhouse, so it's a bit silly to say I'd have a steak. Suffice to say it's a first rate place, and any of their steak varieties would be pretty much perfect. I think non steak eaters can order a chicken or fish option. Not so sure about vegetarians though.
