Where to do wine tastings in Napa Valley?

I'm going to be driving up to Napa Valley for the day. Id like to do 2-3 wine tastings at various wineries.

1. Can you suggest some especially spectacular wineries to do tastings at? We'd like to pick up a nice bottle to bring to dinner at La Folie the next night as well.

2. We'll be having a picnic along the way. Any suggestions of where are some great picnic spots?

3. Heard quite a bit about Oakville grocery as a place to pick up some high quality picnic foods...are there any places that might be better/cost effective?

Thanks!

If you,ve never been, then Oakville is a must. Most of the picnic wineries have picnic food available, some you must make reservations for in advance, so check their websites first. Some of the wineries even have picnic baskets set up, but Oakville is probably more cost effective, and you get your own variety. I can,t really recommend any, but google napa picnic and you wil get some of the top choices. Maybe othe CHers will have some favorites to recommend. Enjoy your visit!

Here's a recent thread on picnicing at Napa wineries:

Oakville Grocery is fine, but overpriced. Other options for picnic supplies:
      Sunshine Market in St. Helena
      Fatted Calf in Napa

Not as upscale, but you can get a good picnic at:
      Genova deli in Napa
      Vallerga's market in Napa
