Tacos in south slope

  • 3

Does anyone have any recommendations for tacos in south park slope? I used to be a big fan of el nuevo mexico, but my last impression was thaet it had gone down hill since they moved. I'm looking for something within a few blocks, Sunset park is too far.

Thanks,

Nick

  1. Well, I love Nuevo Mexico still, but we also like El Rincon Familiar.

    1. I had a pretty poor experience at Tacos Nuevo Mexico recently as well. Salsa was not as spicy. Enchiladas lacked cheese and chicken inside was dry, dry, dry. On the bright side, the tomatillo sauce was nice. There was no sizzle when they brought out the fajitas. I just chalked it up to going on a holiday. I hope our experiences aren't typical because I thought that place was the best Mexican in the area.

Have you tried Fonda? I've only been for brunch and thought it was OK (though I didn't get the tacos).

I was going to mention Fonda as well - we've actually only ever ordered delivery, and while it is definitely not comparable (in terms of price) with Nuevo Mexico (or other sunset park/greenwood terrace offerings) the tacos, which i believe are on the menu as an appetizer and only available in orders of three are quite good, if a bit precious both in terms of serving size and price - as in 2x the price and about 30% less filling than three tacos would be from matamoros or el bronco, but then again I guess you are paying a premium for either the atmosphere/location or the fact that they will deliver them to you in the slope.

another option might be Reyes Deli & Grocery on 4th ave and 14th (15th?). Its just a bodega with a deli counter, but in addition to the typical egg+cheese on a roll they offer tortas and tacos. I've gotten tortas from them numerous times and been quite satisfied. They arent as good as puebla mini mart down in sunset park, but again, deliverability/walkability is a factor here (and they are totally servicable - im pretty confident that their tacos would be as well, plus the guys who work there are super nice).
