The Loft Project [London]
I've just realised that it was utterly remiss of me not to have written up a recent meal at the loft project.
It is the brainchild of Nuno Mendes of Viajante.
It is ostensibly a supper club but more formalised than most and with numbers limited to 16.
Every three weeks or so they get a new 'chef in residence' at Nuno's loft in Hackney where they prepare 12 course meals for 2 or 3 nights on the bounce.
Recent arrivals have included Samuel Nutter - development chef at Noma, Junya Yamasaki of Koya, two of the team from Nahm, Ben Spalding from Roganic (this weekend I think) and Marcus McGuinness who is Claude Bosi's head chef at Hibiscus.
It is unashamedly a chance for chefs to experiment - we went to one in the summer cooked by Mendes himself involved Watermelon sashimi and potato spaghetti among other dishes.
It doesn't come cheap at £120 a head but this includes some fizz on arrival, 12 courses, coffee and petit fours and a continuous pouring of a series of matched wines throughout the evening. You walk out feeling you've had pretty awesome value.
I believe there is to be a small hiatus at the moment because the venue is changing but if a visit to London coincides with a chef in residence I would really recommend it.
