ISO - Thai Holy basil

Evilbanana11 Sep 5, 2011 09:48 AM

Hey guys, after spending some time in Bangkok this summer I'm trying to recreate a dish using Thai Holy basil. This herb is different from Thai/Vietnamese basil which we can find readily here.

Here's a picture with the different types of basil:

Anyone know where I can find this?

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried Marché Hawaii? They have a huge variety of hard-to-find herbs.

There was a vendor at Atwater market yesterday that had only Thai and Vietnamese herbs and vegetables - on the south side just outside of Premiere Moisson. Not sure how often they are there, but I'm guessing they would have it. There's also an organic greens vendor near the north side (across from Douceurs du Marche) that sells many asian herbs - they may also have it.

I don't think the vendor at Atwater market is there on weekdays.

The fruit and vegetable store at the Atwater Market almost always has Holy basil. Sometime's they're out of it, but I can usually get it there. It is the permanent fruit and vegetable place, accessed from outside the market, near the cheese store.

I found some holy basil today at Marche Hawaii. It was indeed a holy experience, as I've gone to 7 other asian grocery stores to no avail. They don't carry them at the permanent fruit and veggie store at Atwater Market.

Which one? Of course where I live (near JTM) I am much closer to the Pie-IX outlet.

It was the Cote Vertu one.
