Sake recipes
So I hadn't had sake since I was young (didn't like it then) but I decided to give it another whirl - picked up an inexpensive bottle of Geikkeken, no descriptor on the label but I guess it's the Junmai.
I tried it the ways described on the label - heated to 105 degrees, over ice, I also had it neat at room temp and chilled a glass in the freezer until it turned slushy. Neat it reminded me a little of dry vermouth (I've only had a cheap one, Gallo I think it was.)
It was interesting enough that I might try a better bottle at some point, but I am not going to rush out and look for more.
I have half a bottle left and was curious to see if anyone had interesting cocktails recipes using sake. I found a couple that I liked.
the Italian Samurai:
4 parts sake
2 parts sweet vermouth
1 part amaretto
pour over ice and stir
Hokkaido cocktail:
1 1/2 oz gin
1 oz sake
1/2 oz triple sec
Shake all ingredients with ice, strain into a cocktail glass, and serve.
and I made one of my own devising, haven't named it but it was pretty decent:
1 part gin
2 parts sweet vermouth
2 parts sake
splash aperol
over ice and stir
Any other suggestions would be welcome.
