sushi plus cooked food

c
cartbaby Sep 4, 2011 06:18 PM

I need to find a good japanese place for sushi plus cooked items. One guest likes sashimi. Other guest requires cooked items. Preferrably in the l.a. area. Around 150, no drinks. The only place I can think of is the Hollywood Katsuya. But I'd prefer a place with better sushi. Perhaps a good robatayaki with new style sushi would be a good fit.
I'd like to try Mori, but I'm guessing I cant sit at a table, order omakase for two and cooked items for the third guest.

If you do go to Matsuhisa, reserve seats in the the private kitchen area.

kiriko looks good too. I have a guest who does not eat raw items, but does like cooked seafood and dessert.

I love Kiriko, too... Aburiya Toranoko would work as well, if you are looking for a more festive atmosphere.

You will not go wrong with Kiriko. For cooked dishes, I highly recommend the seared blue fin tuna as well as the warm spinach salad. The seared blue fin tuna is not always on the menu, but they'll usually make it for you if you ask them to.

Kiyokawa would be another good option.

Don't know if Santa Monica is in your desired range, but if so, I'd suggest Musha.

So my guest and I finally made it to Kiriko last saturday. I can understand why it's so popular here. We had the omakase. We both really enjoyed their soba salad with squid, uni, and tomato. We ate too much. It came out to be about 154 for 2, plus another 90 for drinks, tax and tip. I'll definitely bring my folks here when they get back in town. I like the value here.

Thank you for all the suggestions.
