Help needed near Cleveland Airport

  • 6

You guys were great with some recommendations for downtown Cleveland places that I will be visiting later this week (Chinato and Lola reservations for later this week). But first I would appreciate a little more help.

I am also going to be staying for a few days near the airport at the Crowne Plaza hotel - 7230 Engle Road in Middleburg Heights. Where can I eat dinner? I am not expecting to eat at Chinato quality here, and I honestly just want fast and cheap as I am very very busy working, but would love something tasty. This is an area where the front desk directs me to Applebee's. Any other options? Again, I love all ethnic food/American food - everything from a great hot dog, or a fresh tasty salad to pizza to a perfect taco or great french fries or Pho or a good BLT.

Would the Shinto Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Bar just be a disaster? You gotta love a place called the Mad Cactus, but who knows what it is.

Any input appreciated.

  1. Just down the road is the Brew Kettle.

It's my usual stop on the way home from the airport after a trip. Outstanding beer selection (their own and other micro's) good food and passible barbeque.... for Ohio....

    1. One exit past the airport toward downtown is AMP 150. Truly a wonderful place in a very unlikely location. Otherwise the area is somewhat a culinary wasteland.

      1. Second for TBK in Strongsville; excellent beer selections (theirs and others from across the country) and good food; far better than average 'bar' food.

        1. I live right by there, and your choices aren't great. I wouldn't go to that Shinto place, it's just a hibachi restaurant. However, the Mad Cactus just underwent a major overhaul courtesy of Robert Irvine's Kitchen Impossible/FN show, so we have been excited to try it out since the change, it was just a week or so ago and they've been very busy so we're giving them time to adjust.

The Brew Kettle has great....beer. I honestly think most of their food is lacking. Frozen french fries, etc. The pulled pork is very good but that's about the only thing worth eating there. If you want to get a pulled pork sandwich and a beer, that would be a good destination.

I agree with the rec for AMP 150 if you want to drive a bit and have a very delicious, very foodie type din but it's not cheap.

My #1 suggestion would be to go to Strongsville and go to Michael Symon's B-spot for burgers. Fantastic burgers, fresh cut fries, super tasty. It's down I-71 2 exits past Bagley, in a large strip mall on Royalton Rd/Rt 82 where Target and Heinens are.
