I just looked up the menu for La Soleil, and it appears to be a much more extensive menu than I remember. Does anyone remember a change, and, if so, what exciting things have you tried?
It's been pretty extensive for a few years. And there's a specials board that list some more esoteric stuff (frogs, boar, goat, IIRC). I just don't like that older gentleman that works there (ex husband of Sunflower lady, IIRC). I call him Vietnamese Lurch. Expressionless and shows no emotion. Just give you the feeling you're not wanted there. So I don't go there any more.
My god, I can't believe that I haven't been there in over three years. Makes sense, though, now that my little girl is 3.5 years. I'm a shell of a chowhound now!
I didn't get the same impression from the owner. I remember talking to him, but not what we talked about. We had a pleasant conversation. If you are non-asian, squertz (and by your pic, it looks at though you are not), did you get a "non-asian bias" feeling?
No, he looks equally indifferent and uninterested in the Asians as well. And certainly I've oepne3d the door for conversation with my standard requests for mam nem sauce. White people don't normally ask for the most hardcore Vietnamese sauce there is ;-) And I'm always ordering adventurously and knowledgeably (which is not not broccoli beef and sweet and sour pork).
We went to Le Soleil a few weeks ago and won't go again. It was filthy. None of the dishes were clean. Visible lipstick tint on every glass they brought out. Condensation from the ceiling dripping down into the food. Yuck.
