Finding Old Gourmet Magazines

Does anyone know how or where to find old Gourmet magazines? The basement story with the water and ruined issues is very familiar. In the process, I lost many recipes that I loved especially one for a Chinese chicken salad. It wasn't complex, but I can't remember what all the ingredients were. It was probably from the early 1980's.

  1. It looks like this website sells them, and has a good collection from the 80's, but if you don't know which one it is, then it might be hard.

I Googled the heck out of Chinese chicken salad from Gourmet, and had a hard time finding a recipe from the 80's. Do you remember any of the ingredients? It must be out there somewhere!

    Good luck!

    1. If you go to and click on advanced search, then enter Gourmet in the title box and limit to Journal/Magazine in the format box, you will get a list of hundreds of libraries around the world that keep Gourmet on file. Put in your zip code and it will list them according to how close they are to where you live.

      1. My library has "Gourmet" going back forever. Start with yours.

        1. Save a search on eBay, as old magazines are plentiful and very affordable.

          1. Also tried used book stores, they sometimes have magazines, or if you libraries have any Friends of the Library bookstores, I've found old magazines there as well
