Restaurant recommendation in DC for birthday party of 10 people
I'm looking for a restaurant in DC for a birthday dinner next thursday. Modern cuisine, moderately expensive. We are expecting ten people with diverse ethnic backgrounds. I would prefer a restaurant that accepts reservations. Looking for a lively atmosphere but not so loud that we will be shouting. Most of us don't drink so the wine selection isn't an issue, but good desserts would be ideal.
I would suggest Founding Farmers and Acadiana. The pecan tart at Acadiana is nothing short of stellar. Founding Farmers is good, the appetizers are great, dessert is lovely too - and they have a lot of interesting non-alcoholic drinks as well.

I always find Grillfish to be a good option. As the name would suggest it's seafood/ Italian. I'm not really sure what your personal definition of "modern" is. Grillfish is always delicious, consistent, pricing is good, and dessert is always delicious. Clam chowder is amazing and addictive, but the seafood chowder is so-so. It's good if you have a person with a limited palate who might be miserable in an adventurous restaurant.
On the other hand, if everyone is open to exploring new foods/ tastes you might try Zengo (Asian fusion). it is higher priced and not as consistent with food quality, but the food is definitely more interesting.

Central might be a good choice. Their desserts are very, very good and there is a lot to choose from in terms of menu items so everyone should be able to find something they like. For those that do drink they have fun cocktails and the atmosphere is festive with out being over the top (especially on a week night).
