ISO Saturday brunch spot - Valencia

The Oracle Sep 2, 2011 12:26 PM

Looking for a brunch type place in Valencia for myself and a couple friends to eat and catch-up. We've been infrequently getting together over the years and Valencia is the middle ground. Our go-to has been Mimi's Cafe.

The two places that seem to be popping up in searches are Egg Plantation and Thelma's Cafe. Any thoughts on either?

I'm looking for a place with good food and a spot we can linger a bit ... and not feel rushed to get out the door.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks, all! I ended up at Eggplantation and enjoyed it, for the most part. I thought the service was excellent, and really enjoyed my b'fast select (the crab benedict) - a generous serving of crab and delicious hollandaise. My one complaint was the coffee. The brews inside and outside (which I DID appreciate the fact they had coffee available for those waiting for a table) I found it to be watered down and pretty much gross. If not for the coffee, it would have been a 5-star experience. BUT - certainly better than Mimi's! :)

....thanks also for the Martson's suggestion. I'm in Pasadena and go to the original one often, so I didn't want to venture there, as I was looking for something new. But, I can imagine, it's definitely an asset to the area... their pork benedict IS delicious!

Glad to hear you enjoyed a local favorite. :( about the coffee. Usually the outside is really good!

I've also found myself looking for weekend breakfast in the Santa Clarita Valley on occasion, and, since I'm not terribly familiar with the area, ending up at Mimi's.

But recently, longtime Pasadena breakfast favorite Marston's opened a second location in Valencia - with a nice large outdoor patio and - unlike the Pasadena original - a liquor license and full bar.

So I've lately forsaken Mimi's for Macadamia Nut pancakes, Pulled Pork Benedict and Bloody Marys at Marston's. I recommend them highly!

(Don't let the address confuse you - as it suggests, they're in the new shopping center on the NE corner of McBean Parkway and Newhall Ranch Road, but they're on the far side of the parking lot, opposite the main buildings.)

Yah, I live in the area and enjoy Egg Plantation. There's coffee and water outside to enjoy while waiting for a table. Another nice place is The Tea Gardens. Best outside. Service lacks a bit and a little $$ but, food is tasty. theteagardens.com In the strip mall adjacent to IHOP on Bouquet just N of Magic Mtn Pkwy. If you want Mexican: La Cocina. Hands down the best. 2 locations: Seco Cyn and Bouquet/Plum. Was there for dinner tonight. I go often. Always delish. Great service. Relaxed environ. You can find on Yelp. :) KQ

I really like both of them. Thelma's seems more relaxed maybe because it's smaller and the wait to get a table is shorter. However, I've never felt rushed at Egg Plantation. My vote would go to Egg Plantation due to their wonderful spicy Bloody Mary. If you want a brunch cocktail, definitely go for Egg Plantation. The food is great at both places.

+1 on Egg Plantation. I have been there many times. Everything was great every time. The wait can be a drag though.
