Fordham U Parents/Alumni - Bronx-Arthur Avenue

Hello, my daughter is a freshman at Fordham, Rose Hill. Any tips for local eateries when we visit. I'm looking for advice for Arthur Avenue too, especially spots that may take reservations on Parent's Weekend. Thanks!
Sally

Isn't the Rose Hill campus in Manhattan?

The main entrance to the Fordham Rose Hill Campus is four or five blocks from Arthur Avenue.

Dominick's, Roberto's, and Zero Otto Nove all do not take reservations. Other parents are probably going to end up in this area as well for food, so unless you're going to eat at an off time I think a place with a reservation is your best bet if you want a sit down meal. For Italian American, the most consistent I've found is Mario's. I have also heard very good things about Tra di Noi, but have yet to get over there myself.

I'm a huge fan of Dominick's. I've been going for 20 years so I'm a bit biased, but it is just such a fun place to eat (as long as the lines aren't too bad). Southern Italian at its finest and the most fun if you order family style. The standouts are the stuffed artichoke, linguine calamari, chicken scarpariello, and the stuffed peppers. Have a few glasses of wine and cozy up with your neighbor at the communal tables.

If your in the 'hood early enough check out some of the Italian markets if for nothing but to experience the aroma of a room of drying salami. Zero Otto Nove makes a good pie, but really won't provide the local Italian-American experience as Dominicks'. I think my beef with the upscale wanna be Neopolitan pizzerias is that they are trying to copy a Napoli pizza, not represent the food culture of NY itself. While I do enjoy the change of pace once in a while, in my mind the NY style is where it's at anyway.

Spice Junkies, how do you think two vegetarians would fare at Dominick's? Are there ample -- and more important: good! -- veggie options? (e.g., the stuffed artichokes, broccoli rabe, etc.)

Would be grateful for some veggie recs. Heading there for dinner Sunday -- will report back.

My one trip there was ages ago, but they had plenty of vegetarian options. The stuffed artichoke isn't one of them. iirc, there was lots of pancetta amidst the bread crumbs, cheese and other assorted deliciousness.

Visited Arthur Ave. for the first time yesterday and loved it! Had an early dinner at Zero Otto Nove, it was delicious. Great pizzas, lovely dressing on the arugla salad, we also enjoyed the pasta al forno. Really good cocktails (and wine by the glass). No reservations though. We arrived very early (4:45pm) after a day at the Botanical Gardens. By 6pm, the dining room was full. Get there early, or be prepared to enjoy a great cocktail while you wait. People also praise his other restaurant Roberto, not sure of their reservation policy.
