Flash! Golden Gate Bakery is OPEN.
As of today, anyway. I'm not sure you can count on scoring a dan ta, though. The windows are full of mooncakes, which may be all they are pushing.
It'll be interesting to see if they survive beyond Sept. 12.

How much do the mooncakes typically go for? Trying to figure out where the best place is in SF to sample these inexpensively...

re: shanghaikid
unfortunately 99 Ranch is tough without a car from SF - quite a hike from Daly City or Colma BART, and Richmond is probably worse. I did see that Sheng Kee on Irving has small ones in the $2 range - are these in the same ballpark as all the ones in boxes?

Knowing them, they'll sell egg tarts and mooncakes no problem as they've done around this time of year in the past. It would be like one's favorite Shanghainese restaurant not selling XLB and only offering nian gao during Chinese New Year.
And my guess is that maybe afterwards they might abruptly close for another month or two for a vacation either to somewhere in South America or Toishan China (depending on which place they've been to already), or just flat out rest from the frenzy. ;-)
