Looking for lunch on Route 78 on way to Pennsylvania

Hey, I'm driving from NYC to PA along route 78 and need a place to stop for lunch. Nothing fancy needed, just good quality ingredients that won't take me too far off the highway. any thoughts appreciated.

thanks!

        Circa in High Bridge.

Miller's Tavern in Annandale for a bar pie.

Thanks! Any thoughts if hunger doesn't strike until we're a little further out from NY, maybe over the border into PA?

Having made the trip out to the Harrisburgh area several times, I'd only have toast/coffee before heading out and have an early lunch in Clinton at the Fine Diner. Trust me, it is a wasteland as far as good food between The Clinton area and Harrisburgh on 78. All we could ever find was fast food and a seedy truck stop in Bethel on the approx 2 hour drive it takes to get from Clinton to our destination in the Harrisburgh area.

Oh and it is only about 15 minutes from the Clinton area to the PA state line.

In Philipsburg (exit 3) there are plenty of chains and fast food places. Plus a place that according to some Hounds is the best chocolate shop in the state. (Do a search; I don't remember the name.)

About 10 miles into PA, on rt 33 north, there's a Texas Steakhouse and an Outback, plus a few other places, within two miles of 78.

The 'chocolate shop' you're probably referring to is Antoinette Chocolatier. It is indeed a wonderful little place, located in the old, historic part of town. Yum!

I ate at the Texas Steakhouse a few years ago. It was really good! The google map is not even close to being correct, by the way.

I suspect that's because the chain in question is The Texas Roadhouse.

I highly recommend the Fine Diner, http://www.thefinedinernj.com/ on Main Street in Clinton, just a couple of blocks from the rte 78 exit/entrance (not to be confused with The Clinton Station Diner which was just meh the last time I was there). Great upscale food, not at all your typical greasy diner. Definitely a chowhound worthy place.

                Enjoy!

I too would recommend the Fine Diner. Terrific food and friendly, efficient service. I like the Fox & Hound for dinner but would choose the Fine Diner for lunch. As for the Clinton Station Diner, the only thing I can say is that it is average.

I like the Clinton Station Diner. It's an old railroad car converted to a diner. Right off Rte. 78. Move the google map, the diner is to the west of the marked location (which is marked incorrectly).

Be aware that many of the exits in western NJ are a real pain. Some don't have gas stations, many have restaurants, but they are 2 miles from 78.

And you can try to eat a 5 lb cheeseburger!

3 coworkers and I tried to eat 2 of them at lunch one time. It was painful in the end.

Consider doing the correction in Googlemaps.

Fox & Hound, Annandale, Exit 18? on Rte. 78. Nice outdoor dining area. It's always my option when travelling that route. Thought that chef always had some good ideas/execution when it came to entrees with casual fare (wraps, etc) faring just as well.

Here's a yelp listing. Let us know how you made out should you try F&H
