Do you sing while cooking?
For some reason, I sing bits of opera when I cook, whatever I'm cooking. Maybe I like the drama and passion . . .
Do you sing while you cook? If so, what do you like to sing?

I'm weird. I do sing while cooking at times, but it is themed and I sing along to CD's. When I cook Italian, I listen to the soundtrack of "Big Night" and sing along. When I make gumbo, I put on the Cajun music and after I make my roux (I don't move while making my roux), I dance around. When I make French food, I listen to the 'Amelie" soundtrack and listen to a bunch of french CD's. My favorite song to sing along to is "Boum"--the song is a great cooking song and always makes me happy:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0KWyW...

Not a chance. If I were to sing while I was cooking, I'd totally botch the job (cooking, that is). I need to (and like to) focus totally on the task at hand (that's the ADD kicking in). I find it much more relaxing that way. Plus my singing voice is enough to put anyone off their dinner. But I do like to listen to music while I eat!

Adele and I have been serenading my Eva Diva while I cook as of late. I'm hoping to get mamachef to dance in the background. ;)

My favorite, while cooking is...
Frank Zappa & the Mothers of Invention's "Call Any Vegetable"
Call any vegetable
(Call any vegetable)
Call it by name
(Call any vegetable)
Call one today
(Call any vegetable)
When you get off the train
(Call any vegetable)
Call any vegetable
And the chances are good
Ooooh! The vegetable
Will respond to you›2 Replies-

re: Rmis32
I hope you bake, too, 'cause you can bridge directly from that to "The Muffin Man"...and don't think this one doesn't cross my mind on the rare occasion I bake them!

I sing all time when I'm cooking. It drives my son nuts. The other day, I was stirring and singing away, when he came into the kitchen and asked, "Hey mom, who sings that?"
I answered, "Rihanna." He said, "Good. Let's keep it that way."›3 Replies -
I think on balance, I probably dance while cooking more than I sing, but I do sing from time to time. Ella, Sade, Sting, Gipsy Kings, Buena Vista Social Club, old school R&B - Whatever I'm listening to at the time.

I put the radio on while cooking a big meal, like Sunday dinner or Thanksgiving dinner and I sing pretty loudly to whatever is on.
If I'm just quickly whipping up something on a weeknight, I usually sing the Star Spangled Banner or something by Janis Joplin.›4 Replies -

I sing all the time, whatever I'm doing! I did sing opera in college, so I do a bit of that still. I have small children at home, so we often are all singing some kid song or other, and I let them help in the kitchen whenever possible. And then, sometimes a little R&B or gospel when I feel like dancing too, although that can be a little difficult to do during some recipes lol.

I find myself humming whatever tune is caught in my brain. Sometimes I hum the same phrase over and over again, driving myself nuts.

re: sueatmo
@sueatmo and Sooeygun, we're wired similarly! Whenever ciabatta crosses my mind (god forbid I make a strata, then it's with me for HOURS), I cannot get this one out of my head--chi-baba, chi-baba, Chihuahua!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fnlqfz...Less cooking-related, more a life condition...words or phrases always bring songs to mind. It tends to keep me smilin'. So may I haunt you and others with Peggy Lee next time you think of ciabatta! :P

Another version for those who don't sing, but like to shake their hips. Courtesy of Santana.
