14th St. Faves?

Hey Hounds,

I often have to stock up on supplies for work at Guitar Center (14th between 5th and 6th), but I'm always at a loss about where to go for delicious, cheap-ish grub around there, with the exception of Num Pang. I know about the more pricy and excellent places (Tocqueville, etc.), but I'm looking for a quicker, less expensive meal.

  1. Artichoke pizza is down near 1st ave, but you could always hop on the L if you don't want to walk.

Thanks, ml, but I should've specified within a 2-3 block walk.

    2. grey dog on university and 12th is solid enough for sandwiches. stand on 12th and university used to be ok for burgers...their shakes are still great.

not a ton of options over there due to the rent.

      1. Coppelia has a pretty good cuban sandwich - on 14th just west of 7th Ave.
Taim for falafel and their sabich (eggplant) sandwich - Waverly Place, just off W. 11th.
Murray's Bagels on 6th Ave. btw. 13th and 12th St.
BLT Burger on 6th Ave btw 12th St. and 11th St.
Maoz (falafel) on the east side of Union Square around 16th St.
There is always Two Boots on 7th Ave and Ray's on 6th Ave.
        Da Andrea on W. 13th btw 5th and 6th - dinner only.

        2. Grey Dog is great. I also like Dos Toros on 4th Ave between 13th and 14th. It's cheap and delicious.

          1. If you're there after 3PM, I would go to the El Idolo taco truck on the NE corner of 8th Ave, and 14th St. (I think that's when it arrives). I like to combine it with a trip to the Apple Store or Guitar Center - it's not necessarily worth a special trip, but a nice, cheap treat if you're in the neighborhood.

                  1. Pita Joe is pretty decent falafel and they just lowered their prices. If you want great falafel, walk a little further over to Taim.
