best restaurant(s) that's child and large group-friendly?
hello,
can the board please recommend some places in manhattan that are 1) child friendly (so no places where meals are long, elaborate affairs, or where the service is excessively slow), and 2) can accommodate a large-ish (party of 10) group? cuisine is unimportant as long as it's good eats. also, there need not be a separate kid's menu; by 'child friendly' i don't mean "must offer mac n' cheese and chicken fingers as a dining option" (although a separate kid's menu isn't necessarily unwelcome, either).
i look forward to your suggestions. thank you!

i appreciate your reply, but surely one can do better..?
if the 'large group-friendly' requirement is throwing people for a loop, how about a good restaurant that's simply child-friendly?

I actually think Artisanal is good for groups and children. It can certainly accommodate a group of 10, it always seems to be pleasantly noisy enough that the occasional childish interruption is no big deal, the food is delicious (in my opinion) and it can cater to most tastes. The kids might find the fondue especially entertaining.
Landmarc and Blue Smoke are other possibilities.

How many children and what ages? Do you need high chairs?

two children: ages 3 and 5. high chairs not necessary, but i find booth-style seating helps.

Try Blue Smoke - although not sure if a party of 10 can happen with a booth - ask. Landmarc also works - note there are two locations, uptown is better for large groups.

How about Legend (Sichuan, on 7th Ave, btwn 15-16th St)? I find that they're both child friendly (free ice cream to my daughter on one of our many trips there) and a little brusque (directing me to stow the stroller when i've barely made it in the door). The menu has enough tame fare for less adventurous palates and great Sichuan stuff.
Co. always has tons of children when I go, but I find it a touch too loud and too slow to be a perfect child friendly spot. You could maybe pull off a group of 10 if you go at an off hour.
My 3 year old's favorite place is Moustache. You can definitely fit 10 in their East Harlem location (and maybe in the back garden in the EV). No high chairs in the E Harlem location, but great pizza making views, and really child friendly staff.

Good Enough to Eat is definitely family-friendly, and their food is very good indeed. Be sure to order the coconut cake.
