Need Good grocery for produce near Harrisburg-Hershey, PA
I like Wegman's in Mechanicsville, PA for organic and conventional produce. I am looking for a similar market for once a week shopping west and south of Harrisburg. I see there are no Whole Foods in the area; just Wegman's. I found that shopping at Karns, Hershey is sooo expensive.
Any suggestions? Thanks.
The Giant on Route 39 near Hershey has a much nicer produce section than many of the other Giants I've been to in the area. The prices usually seem reasonable to me, too, especially if you're getting something on sale with your Bonus Card. It's not as good as Wegmans, but it's still decent.
There isn't anything similar to Wegman's (in Mechanicsburg,) in the area. I'd like to see a Trader Joe's.
There's the West Shore Farmer's Market in Lemoyne. Best days there are Friday and Saturday. The main Karns is near there. I've never found their prices to be particularly expensive--must be a Hershey thing.
Broad St Market in Harrisburg, generally Thurs., Fri., Sat. Price Right on Union Deposit Road on the east side of Harrisburg. Heavy Spanish-speaking clientele at the latter, and some superb prices.
Every Tuesday and Friday, in the Farm Show parking lot, in season, there's a farmer's market. Season being roughly May through Thanksgiving.
A hit further afield is the Green Dragon at Ephrata. Every Friday year-round for that. And my favorite: Roots, just south of Manheim. Every Tuesday, year-round, for there.
With a little driving, we've got a superb selection of foodstuffs in the area. There's always yuppie esoterica that can be hard to find. But by and large, central PA is hard to beat for food.... And it's the potato chip center of the universe! But that's another story....
