Tomatoes and Peaches

I saw on the Today show last week that Mark Bittman (BTW-interesting difference of opinions on him over in the Food Media board) prepared a soup with tomatoes and peaches.

Having lots of both I was intrigued.

he mentioned as he prrepared it that they make a great salad, too.

Tried it last night--very ripe farmers market peaches and some home and farmers market tomatoes. Just wedged them, S&P and drop of balsamic and EVOO.

Tasty!!

so good I brought same for lunch, with white balsamic instead and a touch of fresh tarragon (as his soup recipe called for).

I don't think I would have made a salad of just this if he had not brought up the combo.

So, thanks, MB.

I love this combo in salad. a little red onion and jalapeno add more wonderfulness.

I made a tomato-peach beurre blanc for fish while at the beach this summer, since the farm stand had both. (They looked like they'd been plucked that morning). Very nice!

'Tis fantastic, no? They are related, and go together so beautifully: a platter of sliced 'maters and peaches with balsamic dressing. Unexpected by most, and really liked by pretty much all. In the same vein; next time you make a chopped melon salad? Be sure to add fresh cucumbers; same family, same texture; fabulous addition. Even nicer if you dress it with a little lemon and salt...just enough for tang.
Need to try incorporating peaches into soup. I think cold soup for this one. What a lovely Summer dish.

Yes, delicious. Will try the melon and cuke.

Check out Bittman at the Today show website-he makes what looks like a souper (haha) easy cold tomato and peach soup.
