Best Lunch Food near I-35 and 45 (near La Frontera)?
So my office has again moved, this time to the barren expanses of "South Dallas."
Most of the restaurants the internet is telling me about are strip mall chains. I need your help, your opinions, your good-will.
I just want good lunch food at a decent price..
I like holes in the wall, independent places, and even strip mall chains if it does me right.
What are your favorite lunch eats in the I-35/45 area? I'm willing to drive perhaps 10 minute or so away.
Chola's lunch buffet is always good. Just across from the Home Depot on the north east side of I35 and 620. Maybe farther than you want to go, but at least you start eating immediately. I love their saag paneer, goat curry, chili chicken, manchurian cauliflower, and fried bread in cardamon cream. yum.
All good suggestions, but I would say that the places on 620 and in Downtown Round Rock might be a challenge to get to in 10 minutes around lunch time from La Frontera. Gumbo's is really delicious but a bit pricey and if you have less than an hour for lunch, go there for dinner instead. Same with Louisiana Longhorn Cafe. They're not slow, but they are busy every time I go there. Juniors has a great pulled pork sandwich but its also a bar and live music venue so you might get a quicker lunch there as its not live music time. Morellia'sGrill on 79 is also good but always busy from open to close so don't expect a quick lunch there either.

i would add Michael's Tacos, Origami, Sichuan Garden (but only get the Chinese style dishes; avoid the American style stuff like sweet and sour shrimp) and the meatball hero at Hoody's.

I second that emotion for Beluga anyway. There is a "Mongolian" Grill at the La Frontera that isn't half bad. There is (or perhaps was) a Greek style place there to that was decent. Also, on Wells Branch, there is a great place called the Crawfish Shack that has really great food. In a strip mall, but total hole in the wall flavors. ( I did not mean to make that rhyme)
Michael's Tacos for breakfast or lunch. You can call in your order or eat there. It is run by a husband/wife team. It feels good to support people who are living their dream, especially when their dream is so delicious.
Beluga is another favorite in that area. The tower of tuna is always a big hit when I go with coworkers.
I used to work in RR, and, somewhat surprisingly, there are some good options.
Teji's (near 620 and I-35, one exit north of 45) has delicious Indian food. I love their biryanis, and some of the curries are incredible. Sweet owners.
Friar Tuck's Pantry in downtown Round Rock is a great sandwich spot with great pastries, too. Try the bacon and brie sandwich, and follow up with some caramel shortbread.
Main Street Grill, also in downtown Round Rock, is also quite tasty. I love Monica's Salad, and have had some good fish dishes there. A bit pricey though.
French Quarter Grille - I've only been once, but enjoyed the crawfish etouffee.
Taste of Ethiopia in Pflugerville is probably about 10 minutes away, and delicious. I got the girls from work to go with me there exactly once, of which I was very proud.
I've also heard great things about Ho Ho Chinese and Bombay Express, not too far from you on Parmer Ln/I-35.
