Though not an expert nor frequent breakfast/brunch person, I have really enjoyed Urban Solace.
They have great options for vegetarians, protein-only eaters, or the person with the sweet tooth.

I'm not from SD, but am a frequent visitor. Every time I go, we make it a point to eat breakfast at Brockton Villa in La Jolla. Enjoy amazing views of the ocean while eating coast toast and a great espresso- paradise. Just typing this is making me want to go back....

While I do like BV's coffee, the breakfast with the exception of Coast Toast, is pretty meh and quite pricey. Next time you're in town, you may wish to try The Cottage on Fay St.

Funny, I think the breakfast at The Cottage is so overrated. Have been a few times after hearing and reading so many recommendations. I just don't get it. Agree with you about BV. Would like to try out Coffee Cup next time I head into LJ for breakfast.

Take into account that I'm pretty much a rube, but my wife and I have had more positive experiences at Harry's than The Cottage, Brockton Villa, or the Coffee Cup.

I think there is a big difference between "best" and "favorite". Cafe Chloe and Cavaillon are "better" by some nebulous foodie standard, but I'd rather eat at Harry's than probably another other place in La Jolla. I like BV a lot, it is a great setting and I especially love it in the winter when it is quiet, but by far Harry's is my favorite place in La Jolla, just like I like the Broken Yolk, Richard Walker's and dare I say, The Original Pancake House for just a nice regular breakfast. I also don't get the Cottage. I find it cute, fun, but unremarkable just like The Cottage in Laguna Beach.

have to agree RB., it's old school consistant basic breakfast with a pot of coffee on each table. No pretense there!

Forgot about Harry's! Good call, RB. Have had consistently (albeit slow service) good grub there.

Super Cocina. Chilaquiles are off the hook. Huevos Oaxaqueños are also fantastic.

Farm House Brunch - love the new menu
Barrio Star - breakfast torta. yum. Does anyone else do a fried egg sandwich?
Cantina - during the week when the tourists aren't there
Cafe Mono - Mission Beach. The parking sucks but the coffee is great. On Sundays they have Bosnian specialties. Other times: omelets and panini. Great place to sit outside.
