North End American Grille in North Wildwood

  • 4

I understand that Marie Nicole's restaurant in Wildwood Crest opened a new casual spot in North Wild wood, this summer. Has anyone eaten there, and what did you think?

  1. I attempted to have dinner with family and friends and what a disaster - my recommendation would be if you just want drinks and some appetizers it's a good place if you plan to sit down for dinner go to a restaurant where they take dining and service serious.

Can you please elaborate on what you mean by "disaster"? Are you saying it's a good place for a serious dinner?

      Thank you!

        Meg,
Here's my experience with Northend. My wife and I have been there three or four times for drinks and appetizers and each time enjoyed the appetizers and they make a good drink. Well we were raving about the place and invited four friends to join us and we would sit down and try their full menu out. It's a Saturday night so we expect to wait. We are told by the hostess that the wait is 25 minutes which we believe is reasonable and we're willing to do. So we go to the bar to wait and have a few drinks - it's a nice atmosphere and like I said they make a good drink. Well an hour later we start inquiring about our table and the hostess keeps saying shortly so one of the ladies asked one of the bartenders and he told another bartender and this pompous arrogant little preppy wiseass comes back and arrogantly says we don't have anything to do with the restaurant go ask yourself - one of ladies said you don't have to be so rude and he
just kept running his mouth. We complain to the manager who told us openly that the hostess is incompetent or she wouldn't have been available in July when they opened. Anyway we finally get seated 90 minutes later. We sit down order some more drinks and appetizers. One of the ladies asks for bread and the kid helping the waitress - a waitress who was doing everything she could to salvage the disaster - tells us that they are rationing the bread because they are short - someone said your'e kidding me and the kid says you got bread with your mussels and that's all I can serve you. We laugh it off and order our entrees only to be remorsefully told by the waitress that the kitchen is backed up at least ten minutes and that our order hasn't even been put in yet - then we see the chef and the entire wait staff holding a meeting behind the hostess table. At this point we asked for the check and left probably never to return. So the best I can
tell you is it's a good place for appetizers and drinks but wouldn't waste my time trying to get a meal. Sorry to say because it's a great location with a good concept it's just terribly mismanaged. And apparently the owners run two other shore restaurants. What's probably the most unbelievable thing is how the bar manager tried to support the arrogant bartender by saying he's been here since 4PM listening to complaints about the hostess - quite frankly I don't care how long he' been there and 5 hours into a shift isn't that long to be suffering - if you can't effectively handle people you shouldn't be in the people business and the manager shouldn't be making excuses for poor performance. Overall it was the worst dining experience of my life and I eat out several times a week and every night at the shore. I'll never be back or recommend Northend to anyone.

Thanks for the detail! I agree, all a little too much aggrevation for dinner, even on a Saturday night at the shore!
