Chez Panisse Birthday Celebration

I neglected to book the $150 Friday dinner and didn't have the funds for the 1500-2500 Saturday benefit. CP did open the Bar de la Marine out front on Saturday evening with very pleasant servers selling spritzers and appetizers.

For $8, you got a large slice of Pate Maison with small sweet cherry tomatoes, tiny tart cornichon, stoneground mustard and some bitter greens. They also had a plate of house-cured olives for $3 and Ici ice cream sandwiches for $5. You could do CP small plates for the grand sum of $16.

The Pate Maison was very meaty and good but not great. The tiny cornichon were great especially paired with some Aidell's sausages the next night. Especially good were the olives which had a mild citrus-based cure. They were not at all salty.

Later at 9, the Cheeseboard gave away slices and salads and they had a band playing. I was home by then.

A pleasant, inexpensive way to participate in the celebration. Alice Waters made appearances at PFA the next day for screenings of Pagnol's The Baker's Wife.
