But you probably needed a place to satisfy those Monte Cristo cravings even before Phat Sammich closed, considering how dissatisfying Phat's Monte Cristo was [or it was the one time I ordered their Monte Cristo, anyway].

re: rainsux
I don't know of anywhere else that makes the Monte Cristo anymore. We ate at Phat a few times and I can't say we enjoyed it.
Oh wait....The Chocolate Gallery makes one but I think it has been our least favorite dish there. So, the moral of this story.. Make it at home!!!
I was dying for one last week, picked up a loaf of brioche, some nitrate free smoked ham, farm fresh eggs from the farmers market and my wife makes killer raspberry jam. It was the BEST Monte Cristo I have ever had!!
I sometimes wonder why I am so determined in my quest to find excellent food at restaurants when everything my wife and I make ends of tasting better than the majority of the restaurants we frequent.
I don't see us making beef cheeks at home. but you get my point!

Just ate a place in Farmington Hills, Marie Scrambler's I think, that had a Monte Cristo on the menu. I didn't try it so can't report back, but it is unlikely as good as the one served in the Freeman household.

Dear Rainsux's Freep Paperboy,
Please remove the Obit section before making his delivery. This is getting out of control. (Rainsux is the guy with that custom convertable which has knife scratches on the decklid from where JanPrimus carved some home-smoked Kentucky boar sausage slices.)›4 Replies
