The last damn time I ever take a Chowhound survey!

alkapal Aug 29, 2011 09:53 AM

Just took a survey from Chowhound that popped up when I was moving to my "Follow" tab to check on some old threads.

They asked my EXACT age (not a range).

They list Male ahead of Female in "Gender?" REALLY? Are most of your readers here Male? And when did M come before F in the alphabet?

Finally, they ask "Which TV shows (presumably CBS shows?) for the fall I was familiar with." TV shows!!! Not a word about food!

NOTE: That, my friends, is the first and last survey for Chowhound/CBS that I will ever do.

Yes. Please TPTB at CH, remove this survey. I practically went cross-eyed trying to respond, which is why I bailed on it. Now, please stop the damn pop ups asking me to take it!
    It's NOT short.
It has nothing to do with CH.
It's trolling to a captive audience.
    And last, really?

mine was short…maybe they wanted more detailed info from a different age person…..i suspect tthat you are younger than me, ramona.

Eh, thought better of my reply.I gotta stop replying early in the morning before finishing that first cup of coffee or late at night when I'm tired and too fuzzy to think clearly.

Listen, the survey does have to do with Chowhound if certain criteria is met. Providing phony info probably just hurts this site. It costs nothing to use the site and providing info that might help advertisers pour money into the site and get profitable results ... well, doesn't that help us all? It keeps Chow/Chowhound alive

I'm assuming that people are talking about that focus group tab. No one was forced to click on it. If you don't want to provide correct info, just don't complete the survey. \

It would have been nice if it had been less mysterious in the beginning with a little intro paragraph saying what they were looking for and if you didn't qualify would you answer some questions for whatever reason.

Sorry, alkapal, my original reply had to do with your comment and then figured it would just annoy some.So I changed it to comment on some other poster comments in this topic.

i didn't provide phony info (nor did you suggest i did)…but apparently i didn't meet any criteria except those that would lead to me being asked about the CBS fall lineup. i didn't go to the "focus group" tab…i saw that but that is different. that has to do with san francisco people, right?…and it is at the top of the page. this survey was a chowhound pop up that i was talking about.

i see that the SF focus group tab has disappeared (at least from my page).

I feel your pain. Lately there are surveys all over the food related feeds I read and I just close them as quickly as I can. Haven't succumbed to one yet...

Hey, at least they're showing you to close out with a fonted "x" that's actually visible.

l fell for it as well. Thought l would 'repay' them for my frequent use of Chowhound. It was all marketing info.

How else did you expect to "repay" the sponsors? Personal marketing info is their Holy Grail.

Once an idealist, always an idealist, l guess. l had hoped it would be about our preferences and how Chow could be better, yada, yada, yada.

you are right, but I wonder how many of us were any help
For me -false age and gender. We never watch real time TV.DVR everything including tennis and golf etc, pause and skip every ad.Add I didn't recognise 75% of the shows in the survey.

The M coming before F thing doesn't surprise me, it's in keeping with most forms I've ever filled out, irrespective of whether they were for things used primarily by women.

Men, after all, are the default human standard and women the second sex. How would we stay in our place unless we were continually reminded of that? /sarcastic rhetorical question.

Does this mean I should start feeling offended that Asian is listed at the bottom for ethnicity question of all survey forms? Some things are just not worth getting worked up about.

yes. please get worked up about that. if asians were the #1 users on the site, as well as being alphabetically first, yeah…i'd get worked up. cause that's how i roll. ;-).

So are we basing on alpha or number of users? Just trying to clarify what I should get worked up about.

I "fell" for the survey too. Disappointed that it had nothing to do with our CH experience, but rather the new CBS TV shows. Not surprising since CH is owned by CBS. Guess I won't respond to any more CH surveys. If I want to respond to CBS TV surveys, I'll open CBS.com not Chowhound.com.

I really fail to see why this is worth getting worked up about. If you don't wish to take a survey, simply click "decline".

Unfortunately, since you decided to make a big deal out of nothing, anyone with a computer can now know that you are an old feminist who doesn't like CBS. We appreciate that info. Cheers.

                  All in good humor,

ooh, small thing -- a logical flaw -- (forgive me) eh…. i THOUGHT i was taking a chowhound survey. 'cause that's what it was billed as. i like chowhound, and i thought maybe they cared about my little old opinion. about CHOWHOUND.

                    ;-). nice feministic smiley face.

Hey Alkapal, maybe that was a poor joke on the backend of a long week before Labor Day weekend. There was no offense intended. I appreciate your contributions to this site.

                      Have a good Labor Day.
