BBQ in Florida

For the next couple of months I'll be doing a lot of traveling throughout the sate.

I was wondering if anyone had some good BBQ recommendations.

Thanks

  1. Hickory Hollow in Ellenton on 301 features Carolina 'Q, and lots of good sides.

    1. It might help if you posted some sort of itinerary?

      1. Went to 4Rivers, Saturday, not expecting great BBQ, was pleasently surprised.
Good Q, worth the wait in line.
Patience required with the parking situation.

I hate to be like this, but I have to say that my last two meals at 4Rivers were very disappointing. The brisket was so over salted that it was almost inedible. I basically never complain about too much salt, but in these cases it prevented me from finishing my brisket. I am sure I just happened to get unlucky twice in a row but when you add in the wait time, the frustration mounts. It really took away my enthusiasm for putting up with the whole rigamarole.

            Man that's to bad.
I actualy had the brisket sandwich, and it was good, others had the pull pork sandwich and it was also good.
The sides some were good some not so good.
Beans, slaw, fried okra, sweet potato casserole all good.
Mac & chesse fried pickels could be better

When I placed my order they guy was cleaning the bisket right in front of me, and it looked like a good job had been done on it.

        2. Newberry BBQ in Newberry - west of Gainesville and west of US 27 on SR 26.

In West Palm Beach: McCray's out of a trailer (so far) on 45th St. east of I-95. True pit-smoked.

Was in the area the other day looked for McCray's but couldn't find him.

drove a little further down found McCrays. Excellent place.

              1. re: Withnail42

McCrays has opened a temporary one in Riviera Beach on U.S. 1, just a block north of Blue Heron Blvd. on the east side of the road in a little walk-up window spot. Somewhat dicey after dark but only if you're tourist on your forehead.
A newly opened one is Mrs. Smokey's in Lake Park - they used to be in a plaza off I-95 at Northlake. Now, they're just off east Northlake on 10th Avenue in a tiny spot (can eat indoors). Good pork; not a beef fan of theirs, though. Some OK sides; good tea. Be warned: their medium sauce is actually HOT. Trust me on this one.
I forgot Troy's BBQ in Boynton Beach. They're on the railroad tracks at US 1 N. of Boynton Beach Blvd. at 1017 N. Federal Highway (US 1). Dicey neighborhood late night. Delish 'cue.

Newberry's is great. Kind of a scary neighborhood, but the owners are terrific people.

            3. if your still here..this thread may have some ideas....'
