Eating Hong Kong style

In Pataki's recent article she had the following quote:

“But how to get it to go?” I wonder out loud.

“Eat Hong Kong-style,” responds the server playfully.

“Eat a little here and take the rest home.”

Question: Is ordering a meal and intentionally packing leftovers well known as "Hong Kong style"?

I've not heard this association before.

I don't know if it is truly *Hong Kong Style*, but over the years I have been invited to many Chinese Banquets in Chinatowns across the United States ....and i have seen many follow the custom you describe....especially the older invited guests.

That's just people being frugal; not intentionally ordering more so as to make leftovers possible. Banquet menus are set menus, can't really order "more" in terms of food (but you can order more in terms of price, which is entirely different).

The reason the older invited guests go home with the goodies is out of respect for the elders, and not necessarily a generational thing.
