First date suggestions: E 50s and 60s
Looking for suggestions for a first date in the East 50s or 60s. This is a "drinks" date, so a place with drinks that maybe also had some bar bites/tapas/etc., would be perfect. Cocktails and wine preferred over beer.

I agree with Le Colonial upstairs. Sooo many places in that area... You can also go to Opia or to Merchants downstairs. David Burke Townhouse has a nice bar area and you can go next door to Brio for dinner.

If coffee would work, Nespresso was my first date of choice. Madison in low sixties, very comfortable chairs and plenty of room to talk quietly.

You might consider the Monkey Bar, 60 E 54th St in the Elysee Hotel. Www.monkeybarnewyork.com. It's a classic New York place from the 40s/50s that has been recently updated. Bar plus full restaurant. Cozy, clubby and retro cool decor. Vanity Fair hot spot.
