Next few days in SD, staying in Old Town, foodies need recs

I'm heading to San Diego for the next couple of days, staying in Old Town and would like some recs for moderate/reasonably priced but good food in that area and/or in downtown. gaslamp since we'll be out that way too. We're both foodies and are open to different cuisine types, Asian, Mexican, etc. - and we're interested in more casual rather than fine dining options. Not really interested in nightlife spots, but we'll go to one if the food is great. Food trucks are also an option if there are some good ones in SD, but we're there for a convention and can't really chase them too far.

Thanks!

Super Cocina on University, excelllent slow cooked Mexican dishes and very reasonable. here's the website. Also, Marisco's German food truck on 35th & University, best $1.00 Baja style fish tacos, a few blocks down from Super Cocina.

Was just about to suggest super cocina. You MUST go here; best Mexican in a Mexican food town.

Yu Me Ya Sake house up in Leucadia is worth the drive. Some of the best Japanese food I've ever had. It's a very small, family run restuarant with the grandparents and parents working in the back..the kids and younger family members up front. Best udon you'll have outside of Japan. Weird hours and small seating, so best to call well in advance to find out when theyll be open/if you can get a seat.

The closest you'll get to foodie food in Old Town is either El Agave or the Cosmopolitan, but both are rather high end. Super Cocina is great, but not especially close. If you are in downtown you might check out Candelas for Mexican, but again it is more upscale. If you are willing to go a bit beyond downtown into Barrio Logan you could ride the Orange Line Trolley from the Convention Center to the Commercial/25th St stop and go to La Fachada, Taco El Paisa or El Faro.

Downtown has La Puerta that is a fun spot, good tequilas and tacos that are good, just not as good as the ones you'll find in the ethnic neighborhoods.

The best Asian tends to be in the Kearny Mesa area or City Heights area, neither is especially close to Old Town, but Kearny Mesa is the closer of the two. The Dumpling Inn is a nice little Chinese place.

KalbiQ is a good food truck serving "Korean tacos" and they are usually in the University Town Center area. Just not sure how far you are willing to travel to find better food.
