Visiting from NYC - where should we eat?

My boyfriend and I will be in SF for 4 days and looking for restaurant recommendations. We're staying in the Embarcadero area (also we won't have a car).

We're looking for fun, casual, moderately priced eateries (entrees up to $20, or preferably cheaper), with a good local vibe & beer/wine selection. Any cuisine will do.

Also, we're up for exploring "off the beaten path" and hole-in-the wall places too.

Thanks in advance!

  1. PLEASE take 10-15 minutes to scroll down the many, many prior threads and posts with hundreds of suggestions that are already here for you to review. You could also go to the upper right-hand corner of this page and search for "Embarcadero" or "bargain" or any other specific thing that might be of interest.

The questions you are asking do get asked here regularly.

It would also be helpful to mention if there is any type of cuisine (Thai, Hunan, Mexican, Italian, Vietnamese, etc.) that you are looking for.

    1. Old Jerusalem Restaurant in the Mission is one of my favorite middle eastern places, not fancy but great food and inexpensive.
2976 Mission St. near 16th St Mission BART Station. RE: Mexican food I haven't found one place worth a damn in the entire Mission District so I'll be curious what others recommend here too.
