All recommendations happily accepted....!

  1. I've only had two smoked salmons, from Point Loma Seafoods and Trader Joes. I found Point Loma Seafoods version to be a bit too dry. I really like the one from Trader Joes, although it is a bit saltier.

    1. Tks - I've tried them both, but neither has the great soft, fatty taste of good Scottish or Norwegian. I'll let you know if I stumble onto the good kind....

      1. Sounds like you prefer the cold-smoked kind then -- with physical characteristics more like raw salmon. Not a fan, but for hot-smoked (firm and dry), we really like the smoked wild salmon at the Fish Market. Available at the fish counter and in the restaurant.

Great lead - thanks. Just as I was getting seriously desperate....!

          2. The smoked salmon at Fish House Vera cruz is the best I've ever tried. I've been getting it there for years. It's not lox, it's whole sides of salmon smoked of which you can get as much of as you want, in there fish case. It's so moist and thick and perfect! All it needs is a little salt and an open mouth. lol There are 2 Fish House vera Cruz's in the San Diego area. in Carlsbad and one in Temecula. Fantastic! And reasonable!

You forgot the FHVC in San Marcos Restaurant Row.

You're right, I sure did. I forgot all about that one! I'm in the El Cajon/La Mesa area now. I SURE do wish that I had one out this way. I love everything there. I love their Mesquite grilled seafood and the fresh wonderful sides and the bread too! Fish House vera Cruz is a really wonderful restaurant!
