The smoked salmon at Fish House Vera cruz is the best I've ever tried. I've been getting it there for years. It's not lox, it's whole sides of salmon smoked of which you can get as much of as you want, in there fish case. It's so moist and thick and perfect! All it needs is a little salt and an open mouth. lol There are 2 Fish House vera Cruz's in the San Diego area. ...one in Carlsbad and one in Temecula. Fantastic! And reasonable!

You're right, I sure did. I forgot all about that one! I'm in the El Cajon/La Mesa area now. I SURE do wish that I had one out this way. I love everything there. I love their Mesquite grilled seafood and the fresh wonderful sides and the bread too! Fish House vera Cruz is a really wonderful restaurant!

Market has an appetizer on its menu that has the finest smoked salmon I have ever had!

Sounds like you prefer the cold-smoked kind then -- with physical characteristics more like raw salmon. Not a fan, but for hot-smoked (firm and dry), we really like the smoked wild salmon at the Fish Market. Available at the fish counter and in the restaurant.

Tks - I've tried them both, but neither has the great soft, fatty taste of good Scottish or Norwegian. I'll let you know if I stumble onto the good kind....

I've only had two smoked salmons, from Point Loma Seafoods and Trader Joes. I found Point Loma Seafoods version to be a bit too dry. I really like the one from Trader Joes, although it is a bit saltier.
