lol...this caught my eye because a friend from Honolulu was talking about it today...she said she and her family ate malasada burger, blueberry cheesecake brownie, waffle dogs (what's a waffle dog...a hot dog wrapped in a waffle I guess?), corn on the cob, fried ahi musubi, and two types of desert crepe. Sounds like a good chowdown to me:-) (They enjoyed it a lot)

re: janetofreno
waffle dogs are very much like corn dogs except the shell is waffle batter and they are made in a modified waffle iron. they were popularized by a now much missed place called KC drive in, which was also famous for their peanut butter milk shakes. KC drive in was open from 1934-2005.

I have yet to go to this event. Have you gone? I went to "Taco-akko Tuesday" this week. There were 10 trucks and a good turnout. We had a seat at one of the few park tables available and
enjoyed the Thai Chicken tacos from Camille's on Wheels as well as the debut of her individual pot pies the introductory flavor being chicken, it was amazing. Her crust is light, flaky yet substantial enough to hold up to no shell (like a foil pan) around it. We also had a piece of her mango pie. I got there kind of late so some items from other trucks I wanted were sold out. We got her last pot pie. I thought it was a great way to see lots of trucks with a relatively smaller crowd (that being not a "crowd" in the sense of the word but a good turnout.) Here's a picture of her pot pie also on the side is a nice salad.-

I went to Eat the Street in July and probably won't go back...lines were very long, and while some of the offerings may be desirable, when you factor in high prices and the fact that you are standing in a parking lot, the charm is entirely missing. I waited in a very slow line for 3 tiny tacos for $10. The tacos were good, the fillings unusual, delicious even( goat in a rich sauce/jalapeno stuffed with cheese/spicy prawns), but I felt like I shouldn't still be hungry after paying 10 bucks to stand in line in a parking lot. With somewhere between 500 and 1000 people there, seating for maybe 50.
Was recently at a similar event in SFO at Fort Mason and found it to be a lot of fun and prices more reasonable. There were not as many vendors, but more variety, plus they had beer and wine. HNL has got a long way to go to get me to try it again.
I've passed by but not attended the Tuesday lunch which looks much more appealing, as there is grassy lawn all around and the waterfront park a block away.

re: macaraca
btw macaraca, my friend who said she enjoyed it so much (see below) is NOT known for her patience or love of crowds. Nor does she like to spend money needlessly. Yet she had nothing but good things to say...(although she did mention a lot of people :-) So you might want to give it another try....
