Della'annima : The good, the bad and the ugly

Had dinner there for the first time the other night

The Good: Great atmosphere & vibe, music a little too loud, but that is forgiveable. The menu is well put together. Charrged octopus with ricebeans & chorizo, homemade pastas, nice fish dishes. The food was presented nicely with nice ingredients being used.

The Bad: every dish was on the verge of being oversalted. Salads, pastas and entrees, everything was just on the edge where is was noticeable.

The ugly........the ventilation system. They have an open kitchen and the hood over the stoves just is not big enough. The entire dining room was filled with greasy, smokey air. It was so thick that it looked as if the dining room was enveloped in an oily fog. It got to the oint that the mgr. had to keep opening the front door to ventilate the restaurant.

I inquired to the gentleman working the podium and he replied "it is always like this".

Has anyone else experienced this while dining there?

HOWEVER......we finished the night at Apmhora, their wine bar next door which was just awesome!!

    1. I went there last night and I have to agree with The Ugly - the entire place was full of smoke and today my clothes stink! It was so noticeable that I had to ask our server if it was always the case. She said yes. By the end my eyes were stinging and my throat was sore. I'm so glad it's not just us that had this weird experience.

The service was great, always there when needed and non-obtrusive.

The place is really loud; they must have soundproof glass at the front because every time I've walked past I've thought it looked just the place for a quiet meal. It's not.

The bruschetta was great - they bring (unlimited) toasted, oiled bread and the toppings in separate dishes so you can mix and match. The bone marrow was fantastic, a really beautiful mix of flavors. I had the Pollo Diavolo, which was good but not spectacular. Glad I tried it though, And the mascarpone panna cotta was beautiful - creamy and luxurious.

Overall, I would not go there again as the smoke was actually unpleasant. However, it was a nice night.

        Chowmania.........my experience almost to a "T".

I could put up with the smoke.......my wife however.......

We had to wash our clothes 3 times to get the restaurant smell out.

I was looking at the kitchen exaust hood.....I actually think it is not of legal size for the equipment they have in the cooking area.

I wish them well and I will definetley retirn to their wine bar.

You can also try L'Artusi, their sister restaurant.

When the weather is nice, we head to dell'anima and ask to sit outside.

I've now been to L'Artusi! I loved it, and will definitely go back. We sat at the bar and just ordered salads and pasta, and it was all done fantastically (sorry, it was a few weeks ago now and I can't remember what we had). And there was absolutely no ventilation problems at all - so I was super pleased.
